MIKE Harris was hard on himself even in the aftermath of Alaska’s 80-72 win over Meralco in the import’s PBA Governors Cup debut Friday night at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Harris topscored with a game-high 23 points and 15 rebounds and asserted himself in the third quarter when the Aces turned the game around for good after trailing for the most part of the first half.
Still, the 35-year-old former NBA player lamented how he performed in his first game in the league which saw him struggle both from the floor and the free-throw line.
“I missed shots, maybe I overthought a little bit,” said Harris, who went 9-of-19 from the field.
But it was his missed free throws that left the former NBA D-League MVP disappointed after going 2-of-5 from the foul line.
“I missed free throws, which I’m very disappointed in myself,” he said. “I can miss shots, that’s part of the game. But free throws, that’s an individual performance.
“My last five-six seasons, I really takes pride in shooting 80 percent from free throws.
Overall, Harris describes his opening game for the Aces as ‘terrible.’
“It was my first game and I still have some stuff that I got to adjust to,” he stressed. “You, know the locals trying to adjust to me, and me trying to adjust to them.”
Harris looks forward to playing his second game with the team that comes within the next 48 hours against TnT Katropa on Sunday. Hopefully, he’ll do better this time.
“I know I can be better. I think my teammates have seen it in practice,” said the import.
