ERIC Menk is officially a Batang Pier.
Globalport owner Mikee Romero confirmed on Thursday the team has signed the former Ginebra star to a one-year deal after acquiring the rights to Menk by sending young center Brian Faundo to the Kings.
“I am happy Menk is joining us this year,” said Romero, adding he expects the former league MVP to beef up a formidable frontline that also counts on Jay washington, Enrico Villanueva, Nico Salva, Justin Chua, Jondan Salvador and Kelly Nabong.

At the same time, Romero said he expects Menk to lend leadership and stability to a team that also includes superstar guard Solomon Mercado, Leo Najorda, and Mark Yee as well as youngsters RR Garcia and Terrence Romeo.
“Eric, together with Sol, J-Wash and Enrico will be my team’s leaders. I expect them to guide the six rookies, who will eventually be the stars of the franchise,” said Romero, listed by Forbes as the 26th richest Filipino.
The outspoken team owner likewise said he expects Globalport to be the final stop in Menk's illustrious PBA career which began in 1999.
“This will be ‘Major Pain’s’ swan song and I hope he makes a big bang to end his career in a year or two,” said Romero.
Although Menk is an unrestricted free agent, Globalport decided to acquire his rights from Ginebra in exchange for Faundo to fend off interest from other PBA ballclubs.
Coach Junel Baculi for his part bared that Menk has been impressive in two days of practice with the Batang Pier.
“Nag-trim down siya saka kundisyon, nag co crossfit pala siya eh. Kaya maganda ang pangangatawan,” said Baculi, who has already asked Menk to join their Team B in the drills.
Washington said he is eager to play alongside Menk, adding he wants to help a player he idolizes prove to the world that he can still cut in the pro league at age 39.
“That’s my aim, to help Eric prove to the world that he still deserves a spot in the PBA. He can still win games. I am happy to have him here,” said Washington.
