FORMER Smart Gilas coach Rajko Toroman has sought and gained his release from the San Miguel organization, saying he wants to explore "other opportunities."
The San Miguel group confirmed the break-up in a short statement on Saturday, saying it has granted Toroman's request to be released from his current contract as Petron Blaze coaching consultant.
"Management approved Mr. Toroman's request and wishes him well in his future endeavors," the SMC statement said.
The Serbian coach joined the SMC organization last season as consultant for all its teams, both in the PBA and ABL, after his contract as national coach was not renewed by the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas.
He was appointed coaching consultant at Petron at the start of the season, but his partnership with rookie coach Olsen Racela was terminated after the Boosters' struggling start to their Philippine Cup campaign.
At posting time, there has been no word on which direction Toroman is headed.
