THE PBA is set to honor KIA Motors playing coach Manny Pacquiao for his successful defense of his World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight title against American Chris Algieri last Sunday in Macau.
The special tribute will take place before the start of the second game this Wednesday where Pacquiao is expected to return to his dual capacity as player and coach for the Sorento.
KIA has lost seven straight games since an 80-66 season-opening win over fellow expansion team Blackwater, but hopes to draw inspiration from Pacquiao when it plays defending champion Purefoods at the Ynares Center in Antipolo.
Pacquiao played less than five minutes in his PBA debut in the win over Blackwater, going scoreless while committing two turnovers.
"Maglalaro na daw si Cong. Manny kaya may tribute kami na gagawin para sa kanya before ang start ng game," said PBA media bureau chief Willy Marcial on Tuesday.
Marcial added that ticket sales have been brisk since news that Pacquiao will be suiting up in the game broke on Monday, with the initial 6,000 tickets provided by the PBA already sold out.
With Pacquiao set to play, Marcial said Antipolo mayor Junjun Ynares is set to beef up the security in the vicinity of the basketball venue to maintain peace order before and after the games.
