ELIJAH Millsap insisted the referees got it right when he escaped punishment after an elbow to Glenn Khobuntin early in San Miguel Beer’s 114-110 win over NLEX in their PBA Governors’ Cup quarterfinal matchup on Friday night.

The SMB import hit the Road Warriors rookie forward with his right elbow while he was going for a drive halfway through the third quarter, leaving Khobuntin’s left cheek bloodied and forcing him to retreat to the dugout to have it checked.

Millsap was called for an offensive foul, but escaped being called for a flagrant foul.

“I think the referees knew it wasn’t intentional,” Millsap said. “I was just trying to get the ball over his head, so it wasn’t intentional.”

“I hope he’s alright,” the SMB import added of Khobuntin, who didn’t return to the game.

Millsap shrugged off the incident as he finished with 39 points, 11 boards, and three assists in almost 46 minutes of play in his second game for the Beermen.

“I felt a lot better than the first game, a lot more comfortable,” Millsap said, crediting the locals for taking the cudgels at time when he didn’t.

“Guys hit big shots when we needed them to,” the brother of NBA veteran Paul Millsap said. “They carried the load when I was tired. I can’t say enough about those guys. I’m proud of them.”
