BIÑAN – Elijah Millsap was glad to exceed expectations in his debut for San Miguel Beer in its 107-101 win over Blackwater in the last day of the PBA Governors’ Cup elimination round on Sunday night.

The returning import registered 25 points on 7-of-15 shooting, 14 boards, four assists, and one steal in less than 30 minutes of play before fouling out.

“I had little jitters at the start of the game, but I settled down and I was able to knock down some shots,” Millsap said.

“Surprisingly, I played better than I thought I would,” he added after having just two practices with the Beermen after replacing Mike Singletary. “My conditioning was a lot better than I thought it would be.”

Millsap, though, admitted they still have to work on a few kinks on their defense heading into the playoffs after the Elite shot slightly better than the Beermen with a 45-percent clip from the field.

“With a team that got nothing to lose, a lot of guys just resting and trying to get ready for the playoffs, it’s a tough team to play and I think we handled it the best way we could,” the younger brother of NBA star Paul Millsap said.

“It was a nice tune-up game,” he added. “We just got to get better on the defensive end, but everything else, I think we’ll be ready.”
