TALK ‘N Text relied on a flurry of three-pointers from Jimmy Alapag in the endgame as the Tropang Texters booted Globalport out of the playoff picture with a 94-84 win on Saturday night’s PBA Commissioner’s Cup Phoenix on Tour game at the University of San Agustin gym in Iloilo City.
The pint-sized Alapag knocked down three triples in the final period, including two 25-footers just as the Batang Pier threatened to turn things around to practically seal the outcome.
Ryan Reyes was also a picture of consistency for the Texters, finishing with 24 points, including a tough reverse layup late in the game. The Talk ‘N Text guard added six rebounds and three assists, while playing well defensively to limit Globalport star Gary David to just 10 points.
The victory allowed the Tropang Texters, who suffered a blow when former league MVP Kelly Williams took an indefinite medical leave, to tie the San Mig Coffee Mixers at 6-6 as they stayed on course for a top four spot in the playoffs.
On the other hand, Globalport dropped its ninth straight game as it remained in the cellar with its 2-10 record.
Alapag added 20 points for the Tropang Texters, who managed to snap a two-game slide with the victory.
Import Sylvester Morgan led the Batang Pier with 17 points while Willie Miller added 15.
