How about a pretty face and a highly-skilled ace like Gilas Pilipinas star Dwight Ramos, then?
In a G-Shock launch event on Saturday, RoS guard Gian Mamuyac stepped up to the plate during Ramos’ media availability to ask whether there’s a PBA stint somewhere in the horizon for him.
“Do you have plans of playing in the PBA, specifically with the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters,” Mamuyac, Ramos’ supposed-to-be teammate in Ateneo at one point, asked.
Worth noting, however, is that Ramos is set to play a fourth season in the Japan B.League upon signing a contract extension with his club Levanga Hokkaido.
But with a long career still in the offing for the 26-year-old Fil-American hotshot, never say never, right?
“Maybe,” Ramos responded to Mamuyac.
“You gotta ask coach Yeng. Have him talk to me and then maybe we can work something out,” he added in jest.
Battering Ram-os
All jokes aside, at least for now, nearly half a decade in Japan’s top flight basketball league has built a machine of a player in Ramos.
In two seasons with Hokkaido, the team’s co-captain normed 10.1 points on 37.4 percent shooting, 3.8 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 1.6 steals in 84 total games played.
Whether he stays for much longer in Japan, go elsewhere, or does land in the PBA someday, one thing’s for certain: Ramos will be an even better and all-around force on the court by then.
“It’s really competitive [in the B.League]. A team might not do good one year, but the next year, they’re gonna revamp and get new players. This year, I’m really excited for it,” Ramos said.
“I was happy this year already because I was able to improve what I did last year and the year before, even. Every year, I’m just trying to improve bit by bit. And when it’s all said and done, I’ll go see where my peak was and I’ll try to be happy with what I did [in my career].”
