Down to the end, Matias never lost his sense of humor - and respect for Guiao

    Dec 5, 2013

DOWN to the very end of his stay with Rain or Shine, Ronnie Matias never lost his respect for coach Yeng Guiao or the sharp wit that has endeared him to his teammates.

On the day he was informed by Guiao in a 30-minute talk that he has been traded to Air21 for a draft pick, the agile 6-5 big man assured he will never try to pull off his 'ray gun' antic if and when he scores against his former team and coach in a game.

Mamaya barilin ako ng totoo 'nun,” Matias told his now ex-teammates in his final practice with the team, lifting the gloom inside the gym.

- former Rain or Shine center Ronnie Matias, who was traded to Air21 for a draft pick

The Rain or Shine team's longtime funnyman, however, showed his serious side when he finally bid goodbye to the team that had been his home for the past three seasons.

“Medyo malungkot.

Matias, however, is ready to take on the next challenge in his career, airing the hope that his shift to Air21 will mean full speed ahead for his still blossoming career.

Maibaba talaga ako,” said the 30-year old dribbler.

Rain or Shine guard Ryan Arana admits the atmosphere in practice will never be the same without Matias, who has also earned quite a following on Twitter because of his funny quips and response to fans.

Kumbaga nawawala stress sa practice sa kanya,” he said.

Balyador yun eh.”
