ANTIPOLO – GlobalPort suffered twice the pain on Sunday night as Sean Anthony sustained a sprained ankle late in the team’s 105-98 overtime loss to Alaska in the PBA Philippine Cup.
As he drove from the top of the key with a little less than three minutes to go, the Filipino-Canadian forward stepped on the foot of an Aces defender.
The rugged Batang Pier forward still managed to pass the ball to his teammate on the right side, but left the game, for good, soon after with his left ankle swollen.
Anthony iced his ankle right away, but the injury looked so bad that he had to be taken out of the venue after the game in a wheelchair.
“I don’t know (how bad it is), just a sprain, just a bad sprain,” Anthony said in a short interview with reporters after the game.
The injury and the loss dampened a solid showing for the 6-foot-4 combo forward, who had 21 points on 6-of-18 shooting, 14 boards, three assists, and one steal in 40 minutes.
Anthony thus joined superstar guard Terrence Romeo on the injured list, but is hoping to make an earlier return.
“We got ten days. I hope I can get ready in ten days,” Anthony said ahead of their next game against TNT on Valentine’s Day. “If not, I will get back as fast as possible.”
