DONTE Greene continued to stake his claim for a spot in Gilas Pilipinas as a naturalized player as he led TNT KaTropa past GlobalPort, 109-88, in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup on Friday night.
The Texters import, who earlier bared his willingness to undergo naturalization after showing up in one national team practice, scored 33 points, highlighted by four triples, on top of 10 boards, one assist, and one steal to pace the Texters.
Jayson Castro and Ranidel de Ocampo led the local attack of the Texters, who stretched their winning streak to five games after starting the conference with a loss.
Looking rejuvenated following an 11-day break from their last win, the Texters dealt the Batang Pier their fifth loss in six games.
“I think we just we were able to take advantage of the long break,” TNT coach Nash Racela said. “We were able to have good practices. That really helped us on what we had to improve.”
Castro made the most of his 23 minutes and 49 seconds on the floor, enough time for The Blur to chip in 15 points, four assists, two boards, and surprisingly two blocks.
De Ocampo added 14 points in 15 minutes, also dishing out two assists, and grabbing one rebound, while Larry Fonacier and Roger Pogoy also registered twin-digit scoring for the Texters, who erected their biggest lead at 107-84 after Mo Tatuaa’s slam dunk with a little over a minute left.
Malcolm White led the Batang Pier with 21 points and 16 boards, but the import committed an unacceptable eight turnovers, while Terrence Romeo added 20 points on 8-of-20 shooting along with five rebounds, and four assists.
