DONTE Greene is bracing for the worst as far as getting penalized for his post-game comments in TNT’s KaTropa’s 112-103 win over San Miguel Beer in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup last Friday is concerned.
Asked to comment on Charles Rhodes’ claim that “he was scared to guard me,” the Texters import hit back at his SMB counterpart by saying there was no point in trying to man up with him because, “He plays for San Miguel, so you know, he has the refs in his back pocket.”
That resulted in league commissioner Chito Narvasa summoning Greene, who apologized after their meeting on Monday afternoon.
“It was all a joking matter between me and Rhodes, but I understand there are some things you just (can’t) say. I didn’t mean to offend the referees in the game on Friday and I apologize to them,” Greene said in a statement posted on the league’s website.
“I want to thank the league for understanding where I was coming from and I accept all penalties that come down with it,” he added.
A fine is still expected to be slapped on the NBA veteran, who nevertheless said he is enjoying his maiden stint in the country.
“I love it. It’s been fun,” Greene said. “The fans are great. They know who you are, and they know your stats, and what you’ve been doing. It’s pretty fun. It feels like being back home.”
