AN injured right shoulder kept Don Trollano from suiting up for San Miguel in their PBA Commissioner’s Cup game against Barangay Ginebra on Sunday night.
The veteran shooting guard said he opted not to play in the league’s first playdate for 2025 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum so as not to further aggravate the injury which he sustained during the Beermen’s game against the Blackwater Bossing.
“Nadaganan ako ni George King,” he shared to SPIN.ph shortly after the 93-81 loss by the defending champions to the Kings.
“Pinahinga ko na lang muna kasi masakit pa rin siya, e.”
Trollano felt the injury worsened when he saw action in the Beermen’s final game of 2024 - a 99-91 loss to guest team Eastern in overtime.
He hasn’t practiced with the team since then, but hopes to rejoin the team when it faces the Magnolia Hotshots on Sunday at the Ynares Center in Antipolo.
San Miguel has a Jan. 8 game in the East Asia Super League (EASL) against the Hiroshima Dragons, which the former Adamson standout plans to skip.
“Hindi na ako lalaro sa EASL. Para hopefully, next game makabalik na ako,” he said.
In the six games Trollano played in the mid-season conference, he averaged 9.0 points and 3.6 rebounds, numbers which the Beermen sorely missed as they tumbled to a second straight loss for a 3-4 record.
