FOR Rain or Shine guard Don Trollano, it was the fitting way to end a very rewarding year.

In his own little way, the 24-year-old sophomore, along with his family, put smiles on the faces of kids at the Meritxell Children’s Home in Marikina City three days before 2016 comes to an end.

Trollano went to the orphanage straight from the Rain or Shine practice to join the gathering made possible by longtime partner Patricia Palacol and friends, along with his fans club led by Juni Obin.

The native of Gigmoto, Catanduanes personally led the gift-giving activity, ate with the children, and watched with glee the various parlor games played during the two-hour program.

“Gusto ko lang i-share yung blessings and pasasalamat na rin sa tinatakbo ng career ko,” said Trollano, who personally invited SPIN.ph to grace the small gathering.

The year indeed, was truly meaningful for Trollano, selected in the second round (No. 15 overall) by Rain or Shine in the 2015 rookie draft, who won a championship with the Elasto Painters right in his freshman year.

Lending support to Trollano’s cause was Rain or Shine assistant team manager Jay Legacion and family, and the player’s agent Ed Ponceja.

It was one long day for the former Adamson stalwart, who of course didn’t mind.

Early Thursday morning, he and the rest of the Elasto Painters attended the burial of team matriarch Margaret ‘Mommy Yu,’ before they proceeded to the team’s oval practice.

Shortly after, he drove all the way to Marikina in time for his charity work.

“Actually si Pat ang may idea nito. Mahilig siya talaga sa mga ganyan,” said Trollano of his partner, a graduate of UP Los Banos and mother to their chubby, three-year-old boy who celebrated her birthday last Dec. 23.

“Dati sa Laguna, nagpa-pack kami ng mga goods and then ibibigay namin sa mga tao every Christmas. First time namin na pumunta sa ganitong orphanage,” he said.

Meritxell was first established in 2008 to care for marginalized and abandoned children. It is a popular foundation frequently visited by showbiz personalities doing charity work such as Angel Locsin and Dennis Trillo.

The cast of the play ‘Annie’ shortly followed when Trollano and family was through with their program.

“Sabi nga nila puntahan daw ito ng mga ibang celebrities na tumutulong din sa mga foundations like Meritxell,” said Trollano. “Si Pat lahat ang nag-arrange nito.”

So what is his wish for the year 2017?

More playing time, and of course, another championship for Rain or Shine, according to Don.
