TALK 'N Text is bringing in former Air21 Express import Dominique Sutton to boost their sagging campaign in the season-ending Governors’ Cup.
A source told Spin.ph that Sutton is on his way to the Philippines to replace Steffphon Pettigrew, who has failed to live up to expectations.
“He is on his way here. We’re just clearing things up so hopefully he can suit up against Kia tomorrow,” said the source referring to Sutton, who averaged 26 points, 15.4 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 2.40 steals per game for Air 21 in the Governors’ cup last year.
There will be no problem for the playing rights of Sutton, as the Air 21 franchise has already been sold to Talk n Text’s sister company NLEX.
Sutton is coming off a successful stint in the NBA D-League where he helped the Sta. Cruz Warriors cop the 2015 title. He is the second balik-import from Air21 after Michael Dunigan played for Barangay Ginebra last conference.
As of posting time, the Texters have yet to advise the league about an import replacement.
Talk 'N Text, which plays Kia at 4:15 on Friday, has until 5 p.m. of Thursday to facilitate the notice for a change of lineup.
The Texters, with a win-loss record of 4-6, still have a slim chance of moving to the playoff round but faces a tough Kia team that beat them in the Commissioner’s cup eliminations.
