JAPETH Aguilar is suspected to have suffered a strained muscle in his right elbow shortly after conmpleting a two-handed slam off the transition during the first half of the Barangay Ginebra-Blackwater game.
The high-leaping 6-foot-9 forward landed awkwardly following the dunk and was seen trying to shake off pain in his right elbow shortly after.
He was immediately taken inside the Ginebra dugout at the Astrodome and had the hurting elbow packed in ice.
A Ginebra staffer, physical therapist Aspi Calagopi, said it could be a strained muscle.
“Good thing nagagalaw niya naman. May pain nga lang,” he said.
No cameras were allowed inside.
Coach Tim Cone confirmed the injury to be a hyperextended elbow, but agent Matthew Manotoc assured X-rays showed no fractures in the hand.
In a short chat with SPIN.ph, Aguilar said the timing was bad when he landed on the floor.
“Alanganin na kasi nung nakuha ko yung bola sa fastbreak, malapit na sa ring,” he said. “Kaya pagbagsak ko medyo alanganin.”
The halftime ended with the Kings up, 53-40.
Aguilar, who led Ginebra in scoring with 14 points on 5 of 9 shooting in the first half, still joined the team on the court for the second half but never played.
