GLOBALPORT sustained its resurgence in the PBA Governors’ Cup after pulling off a 101-99 escape act against Rain or Shine in a thrilling encounter on Saturday night at the Ibalong Centrum for Recreation in Legazpi City.
The Batang Pier trailed most of the way, but clawed back to frustrate the Elasto Painters and win for the third straight game at the end of the Petron Saturday Special.
Terrence Romeo showed the way with 33 points, but it was Jay Washington who scored the go-ahead basket while also getting timely contribution from Yousef Taha as the Batang Pier tied the E-Painters with a 3-4 win-loss record.
The Batang Pier didn’t even need the services of recently acquired Asian import Tyler Lamb, who was expected to make his debut but surprisingly just sat in the sidelines.
The Batang Pier were still down by five points, 97-92, with a little over three minutes left, but finished the game on a 9-2 run to prevail.
Off a timeout, Washington converted on a putback off his own miss as it put the Batang Pier up for good, 100-99, that negated Beau Belga’s right-wing jumper in the previous possession.
The E-Painters had a chance to regain the lead, but Jericho Cruz missed a looping triple from the left corner, while Dior Lowhorn also botched a point-blank shot off a timeout in their last play that could’ve at least sent the game into overtime.
