Dioceldo Sy glad to explain side to GAB; meets with Marcial next

Dioceldo Sy meets with GAB chief to explain side in alleged illegal workout
    Jul 20, 2020

IT was a serious meeting that turned a bit nostalgic.

Blackwater team owner Dioceldo Sy sat down with Games and Amusement Board (GAB) chairman Abraham Mitra Monday to discuss the workout done by the Elite that allegedly violated health protoocols during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Sy said he was relieved to finally explain his side personally on the issue that ruffled feathers around the PBA and cost the Ever Bilena Cosmetics Inc. president and CEO a P100,000 fine meted by the Commissioner’s Office.

“It was a good meeting. I’m satisfied,” was Sy’s curt reply when asked what transpired during the meeting held in Pasig City.

Sy came with alternate governor Ariel Vanguardia, team manager Jacob Munez, and consultant Oliver Gan, while Mitra was accompanied by GAB commissioner Edward Trinidad.

The talk turned nostalgic as Sy and Mitra had met before when the GAB chairman’s father, the late House Speaker Ramon Mitra, was still alive.

The Blackwater executive recalled working with the elder Mitra in a project they did in Palawan way back in the early 90s.

But it was former Palawan governor Joel Reyes who eventually introduced Sy to the GAB chairman.

“He was a new college graduate then sa San Beda kaya hindi niya na gaano maalala. That was way back in the 90s pa,” said Sy.

But the two did go down into business with Sy stressing there was really no practice that took place.

The 62-year-old sportsman-businessman also denied there was a video footage of the workout contrary to reports that there was a copy of it circulating around.

Sy said a video showing Blackwater in practice was an old clip by TV5, as shown by Vanguardia to Mitra.

The Blackwater team owner will next meet with Commissioner Marcial on Tuesday after which, a possible talk with PBA chairman Ricky Vargas.
