TALK ‘N Text forward Jared Dillinger has been brought to the Makati Medical Center over the weekend for doctors to check if he needs to undergo surgery for a fractured hip sustained in a vehicular accident early Saturday morning.
“Fractured hip eh, pero oobserbahan muna kung kailangan bang operahan,” said Virgil Villavicencio, the Talk ‘N Text/Meralco media liaison officer after the Texters' 85-79 win against Barangay Ginebra on Sunday night.
Villavicencio and Talk ‘N Text coach Norman Black declined to give any detail about the accident, although GMA-7 Balitanghali reporter Mariz Umali has reported that Dillinger’s white Mitsubishi Montero was wrecked after slamming a Skyway post in Makati City at 4am on Saturday.
The same report said Dillinger asked responding barangay officials to bring him to his home in Merville Subdivion in Paranaque City instead of a hospital.
He was later brought to the Makati Medical Center for further evaluation.
Although the team is still waiting for the doctors' evaluation, Black said the Gilas mainstay is out for the conference and there's a possibility Dillinger might sit out a portion of the Governors Cup.
“I’m not really sure (about the details) but JD did hurt his mid-section. As far as I know, he’ll be out for a while, possibly into the next conference. But I hope he progresses quickly,” said Black.
“I’m happy it’s not as serious as they feared. Guys like Aron Aban and Bambam Gamalinda will have to step up now for us to go further in this playoffs,” he added.
Aside from Dillinger, Talk ‘N Text was already missing the services of ailing forward Kelly Williams (blood disorder) and big man Ali Peek (knee).
