SAN Miguel faces the prospect of playing all-Filipino against Blackwater as import Dez Wells’ status is still unclear heading into their Wednesday face-of in the PBA Governors’ Cup at the Astrodome in Pasay City.

San Miguel coach Leo Austria said Wells is a gametime decision, saying the Beermen import is still not fully recovered from the ankle sprain that he suffered in a game against Meralco two Sundays ago.

“Nagpa-practice siya. Kahapon nag-skip siya ng practice dahil medyo sore ang muscles niya. Let’s see today. Depende,” said Austria prior to Wednesday’s match at the Cuneta Astrodome.

A source familiar with the situation said the Beermen are prepared to play without an import on Wednesday, having laid out a game plan against the Elite without Wells in the game.

Austria, however, said it will still be up to Wells if he is going to play for San Miguel on Wednesday.

“Depende sa kanya kasi sabi ng PT namin, playable pero depende sa nararamdaman niya,” said Austria.

Wells is averaging 37.1 points, 7.9 rebounds, 4.8 assists, and two steals through eight games with the Beermen, who are currently in a share of fourth place with Barangay Ginebra on 5-3 records.

The Beermen are looking to get ahead in the race for one of the four twice-to-beat incentives in the quarterfinals.

San Miguel though will have to atone for its 125-99 blowout loss to Meralco two weeks ago.

The Elite, meanwhile, have lost four in a row to occupy last place along with Rain or Shine on 2-7 records.

The team will be playing for the first time since making a recent trade that sent their top rookie Bobby Ray Parks to TNT for Don Trollano, Anthony Semerad and a first-round pick in the 2021 PBA Rookie Draft.
