ANTIPOLO – Dez Wells has left the Philippines and is no longer a part of San Miguel, a person familiar with the situation disclosed on Wednesday.
The source said Wells left the country on Tuesday night, a few days after he was involved in a scuffle in practice that also involved teammates Arwind Santos, Ronald Tubid, and Fil-Am Kelly Nabong last Sunday.
The departure of Wells in the country should also explain why the former San Miguel import was no longer sanctioned for the fight that happened during the Beermen’s practice on Sunday at the Upper Deck Sports Center in Pasig City.
San Miguel broke out its silence on Wednesday afternoon, announcing that it has indefinitely suspended Santos, Tubid, and Nabong for their roles in the fight.
Witnesses said Wells fell to the floor after a hard pick by Santos. The situation, however, worsened after Tubid, a good friend of Santos, retailiated by punching Wells. Nabong later joined the fray and punched Tubid.
Wells was still in the country as he is on the injured/reserve list due to a sprained left ankle he suffered last Oct. 27 in a game against Meralco.
With the development, John Holland will continue to suit up for San Miguel in its match against TNT on Wednesday where the Beermen need to win to gain a twice-to-beat advantage in the quarterfinals.
