CHARLES Rhodes insisted he was hardly satisfied with his debut for San Miguel Beer in the team’s 99-92 win over Meralco in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup on Sunday night.

The SMB import left a solid first impression as he registered 22 points on 50-percent shooting, 12 boards, two blocks, one assist, and one steal in 33 minutes, looking like he’s exactly what the doctor ordered for the Beermen.

What bothered him was he missed five of his 13 free-throw attempts as well as getting into early foul trouble.

“Unfortunately, I had kind of like a bad game,” Rhodes insisted. I don’t normally miss free throws.”

“And I just got in foul trouble,” he added on playing just three minutes in the second quarter after picking up his third foul late in the first period. “That was real frustrating for me, so I just got to get adjusted to the style of play with the referees.”

Still, Rhodes made up for it in the second half where the 6-foot-8 big man anchored his team’s defense, evidenced by his block on Meralco counterpart Alex Stepheson midway through the payoff period.

“I’m pretty sure I’m going to have more blocks,” Rhodes beamed. “That was my main focus, to focus on my defense, and make sure we get these guys (Meralco) their first loss.”

“That was the whole motivation,” he added. “I knew everything else was going to fall in place being with this team with great players.”

While he already complements his teammates, Rhodes is still eager to put up a better individual showing in the coming games.

“I think next game, I’m going to have a much better game than I did tonight,” the 31-year-old cager vowed.
