BARAKO Bull veteran playmaker Dennis Miranda swears there’s a big difference watching Globalport Fil-Am rookie Stanley Pringle do his stuff on the court and play against him on actual game.

The 10-year veteran has seen the 6-foot-1 Pringle while still with the Indonesia Warriors in the Asean Basketball League (ABL), but Miranda came away more impressed after seeing the rookie up close in Sunday’s PBA Philippine Cup game between the two teams.

“Malakas si Pringle, very quick, and smart. Beterano na rin siya at di nagfo-force ng shots niya,” said Miranda, whose team dropped to 0-2 this conference after losing to Globalport, 91-81.

Although known for his ability to score in bundles, the GlobaPort freshman guard out of Penn State instead broke down Barako Bull’s defense with his dribble penetration and sleek passing.

Pringle banged in 19 points, grabbed eight rebounds and issued two assists late in the final period that allowed Globalport to put the game away.

Miranda said what league fans saw from Pringle may just be the tip of the iceberg.

“Siguro pag mas marami pang game, makikita pa ang laro niya. But he’s an intelligent player. Iniisip niya yung team bago sarili,” the 5-10 guard said.

The 32-year-old Barako Bull guard also credited Pringle and backcourt partners Alex Cabagnot and Terrence Romeo, whose pressure defense forced the Energy to commit a total of 16 turnovers.

Miranda admitted the Batang Pier’s defensive pressure threw the team’s offense in shambles, a big reason why Barako Bull could only go 2-of-17 from three-point zone.

“Kanina medyo hirap din ang opensa namin. Nagta-trap kasi sila sa backcourt, kaya si Mick (Pennis) di maka-shoot sa labas,” he said.
