DASMARIÑAS CITY – Calvin Abueva was a spark off the bench for Converge in Game 3 of the PBA 50th Season Governors’ Cup quarterfinals against Rain or Shine.
Abueva had 13 points and 10 rebounds in just 15 minutes of action to help the FiberXers take a 105-89 win over Rain or Shine. He was the second Converge player to achieve the feat after Juan Gomez de Liano (19 points, 13 rebounds).
Abueva had four points and five rebounds right in the third quarter when the FiberXers started to pull away from the Elasto Painters. Abueva earned his points from the foul line, going 4-of-5 after drawing four fouls from ROS.

Converge coach Delta Pineda noted the value of the 38-year-old Abueva, who is averaging 14.0 points and 7.3 rebounds in the best-of-five series.
“You know Calvin, kahit matanda na ‘yun, ‘yung energy na kino-contribute niya, everytime na papasok, nandoon pa rin ‘yun,” said Pineda.
“Kailangan pa rin po namin ‘yung energy niya especially on defense,” added Pineda.

Abueva was also key in controlling Caelan Tiongson, who scored a team-high 16 points but had to earn his three-point shots where he went 4-of-11.
“‘Yung offense, bonus na lang po sa amin ‘yun pero ‘yung energy on defense, ‘yun ang kailangan po namin kay Calvin,” said Pineda.
