MIKEY Williams is starting to prove the decision of Converge to trade for him was right all along.
The veteran guard came up clutch when it mattered most, draining back-to-back three pointers that propelled the FiberXers to a 120-109 win over Rain or Shine and the franchise’s first PBA semifinals appearance in the Season 50 Governors’ Cup on Friday night.

Williams, a two-time Finals MVP while still with TNT, finished with 17 points, seven rebounds, and three assists in helping the team wrap up the best-of-five series in four games before its ecstatic fans of Converge at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The FiberXers acquired Williams in a trade with TNT for Jordan Heading while the Fil-Am guard was in hibernation in the US, a move many basketball fans believed was a big risk on the part of the franchise owned by Dennis Uy.
But head coach Delta Pineda said trading for the 33-year-old Williams was a good decision.
“Wala tayong pinagsisihan doon. It’s a good decision, it’s a team decision, it’s an owner’s decision,” said Pineda in reply to a SPIN.ph question regarding the trade that was consummated a year ago.
“And now it shows na ‘yung experience ni Mikey in this crucial moment at na-deliver po sa amin.”
The FiberXers will meet top-ranked NLEX Road Warriors in the semifinals, a similar best-of-five series.
