RANIDEL de Ocampo has been a huge part of Talk ‘N Text’s dominant championship run in the PBA Philippine Cup the last three seasons, yet he refused to take full credit for the Tropang Texters’ success especially in the team’s 89-81 Game Two win against Rain or Shine on Friday night.
“Si coach (Norman Black), malaki naman tiwala niya sa amin saka sa teammates ko. Nagtutulungan kami sa loob ng court kaya siguro nagiging maganda resulta ng laro namin,” De Ocampo said after guiding the defending champions to a commanding 2-0 lead in the Finals behind his 24 points and nine rebounds.
While he admitted going up against Rain or Shine’s heavyweight frontline is no easy task, De Ocampo said Talk ‘N Text’s team-first mentality makes the Tropang Texters tough to beat in the best-of-seven series.
“Pinakamagandang nangyari lang sa amin nung ma-shoot ni Kelly Williams `yung three-points bago mag-end ang third quarter. So nandun `yung tiwala ni Larry (Fonacier) na kahit mas shooter siya kay Kelly, binigay niya pa kay Kelly,” he said of the buzzer-beating trey Williams hit that tied the game at 63-all going into the final period.
While up two games against the Elasto Painters, De Ocampo said the Tropang Texters haven’t accomplished anything yet until they rack up four wins and retain their title.
That’s the reason why de Ocampo said they need to maintain their aggressiveness in Game Three on Sunday since they expect a determined Elasto Painters to come after them.
“Mahirap magsalita ng tapos, pero siyempre, pipilitin namin manalo sa Game Three. Nangyari na rin iyan nung 3-0 kami sa Powerade. Basta huwag lang kami magpapabaya at maging aggressive lang kami,” he said.
