THE league and their jerseys were different. But the result was the same.
The rivalry of journeymen Darnell Jackson and Josh Powell in the Chinese Basketball Association has spilled over into the PBA with Jackson now with Meralco and Powell with Barangay Ginebra.
They Said It!
“Me and Josh we know each other way back. It was always fun competing against each other, we always play hard against each other." Meralco Bolts import and former Cleveland Cavalier Darnell Jackson
But as usual, Powell got the better of Jackson.
Powell, who held a 4-1 win-loss card against Jackson in the CBA, led the Gin Kings to an 88-78 victory over the Bolts in the Commissioner’s Cup on Wednesday at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
"(Today) he came out with the victory. I wish it happened the other way, but it's basketball and we have another game to play," said Jackson, who registered 25 points, 18 boards, and an assist, steal, and block that all went for naught.
At least he had a better individual performance than Powell, who wound up with 16 points, 15 boards, two assist, two steals, and two blocks in his PBA debut.
"But I'm good,” Jackson said. “Me and Josh we know each other way back. It was always fun competing against each other, we always play hard against each other."
"And when we see each other its always respect we just try to go against each other, compete against each other and just make it fun," the former Cleveland Cavalier added.
