CYRUS Baguio felt that his eagerness to perform well against Alaska backfired as he wound up playing below expectations against his former team in their matchup in the PBA Governors’ Cup on Saturday.

The Phoenix star guard registered only eight points, three assists, two rebounds, and two steals in 30 minutes of play during the 103-87 loss, his first meeting against the Aces, who traded him before the start of the season-ending conference.

“Parang na-feel ko rin na medyo tight ako, medyo may gigil,” Baguio, who played his last six years with Alaska, admitted. “Siyempre, gusto kong magpakita, gusto kong makatulong sa Phoenix against my former team.”

Baguio and the rest of the Fuel Masters’ locals failed to score in double figures and provide support to import Eugene Phelps, who carried most of the load anew with 34 points and 24 boards.

“Kailangan talagang suportahan namin yung import namin,” Baguio said.

Indeed, it was on the defensive end, more than on offense, where the Fuel Masters lacked as they allowed six Aces to score in twin digits – a balanced effort that Baguio is hardly surprised to see.

Still, Baguio stuck to the positives as the Fuel Masters remained alive in the playoff race after dropping to an even 5-5 win-loss record.

“Andito pa rin naman kami,” the veteran guard said.
