COUNT Robert Jaworski, Jr. among those trying to persuade his dad to make a PBA comeback.
Like the millions of Ginebra fans who have been clamoring for the return of the 'Big J,' his son and namesake, better known as Dodot, said he wants to see his dad relive his old magic in the pro league.
“I know he was being invited, but as of now there is nothing concrete yet,” Dodot said. “Wala pa siyang binabanggit sa akin about his plan and feedback on the offers, nadidinig natin merun nga daw.”
Dodot said he has been trying to convince the Hall of Famer to heed the fans' call.
“Pero katulad nung mga milyon-milyong fans dyan ni dad, ni Jawo, isa ako sa mga umaasa na sana bumalik,” he told Spin.ph. “Kahit on my own eh tinutulak natin ang aking ama na kung may pagasa pa, bumalik (siya).”
Dodot, who made history by becoming the first second-generation PBA player to be in the same team as his father during his stint with Ginebra, said he is aware of interest from some teams and the clamor among fans to have the Big J back, thanks to Spin.ph.
“(Last time I told him was), 'Dumadami ang nagsasalita at nagdadasal na sana eh bumalik ka sa PBA.' Tumawa lang siya at sabi niya, ‘Titignan natin’,” he said.
“And again, katulad nga ng sinabi ko, hindi naman sarado yung pinto, so may pagasa,” he added.
Asked why he wants his dad to return to the league where he is still among its most popular figure, the younger Jaworski said he wants to see this dad relive his old magic and bring joy to the fans.
“Hindi dahil sa father ko siya noh. Pero iba pa rin yung panahon ni Jaworski eh. Nakaka-miss lang. Iba yung magic na dala niya nung panahon niya,” the former Ateneo guard said.
“Andyan pa rin yung nararamdaman nating fans ng Ginebra, yung never say die. Pag nakikita natin naalala natin yung Jaworski, parang bumabata tayong lahat eh. So sana bumalik.”
As of the moment, the former Gordon’s Gin guard said he is leaving the decision making to his dad, who he bared is being approached by fans who want him back in the PBA, both here and abroad.
Dodot has no doubt that Jaworski, too, is aware of the growing clamor for his return.
“Nararamdaman niya for sure ('yung clamor ng tao). Kahit naman saan siya mapunta, nilalapitan siya ng tao at sinasabihan na bumalik siya. So tignan natin,” he said.
“Kahit sa abroad, nilalapitan siya ng mga kababayan natin at sinasabihan na sana bumalik siya. In the past week, hindi pa kami nakakapag-usap agad (nasa abroad siya eh) pero I know, napag-isip-isip niya 'yun.”
Asked which team he prefers his dad to join if and when he comes back, here's Dodot's answer:
