WHILE the winning stayed constant, the hairstyle saw a change for some San Miguel Beer players.
Cornrows are starting to become a trend for the Beermen as Chris Ross and Alex Cabagnot joined Brian Heruela in sporting the look in the team’s PBA Commissioner’s Cup game against Star on Sunday night.
“Just something different,” Ross said. “Alex found a guy to braid our hair. He came into our practice and braided the other guys. I think you'll see more going forward. It's just fun.
“Me personally, I like to change my hair every conference,” added the Philippine Cup Finals MVP who led the locals in scoring with 19 markers. “I kinda get bored with my hair and just change it up.”
The curly-haired Ross even went as far as thinking about changing the color of his hair.
“I want to, but Arnold (Van Opstal) beat me to it,” he said of his rookie teammate who’s sporting gray hair. “So maybe after next conference.”
Cabagnot explained his long hair was starting to get in his sight.
“It goes in my eyes, that’s why,” the SMB star guard said.
It was Heruela who started the trend, having sported that braids since coming over at SMB.
“I guess (they followed my lead), but they had it before,” Heruela insisted. “And it was a matter of growing their hair out as well, so it’s a new style.”
The seldom-used Heruela provided a spark off the bench mob with eight points built around two triples, on top of four boards, one assist, and one steal in 12 minutes.
“I guess it (hair) was a lucky charm, but I was just thankful to coach and my teammates for keeping their trust and believing in me and the whole team,” Heruela said. “It was a matter of being always ready when your name’s called.”
