THE Converge plan to tap Chris McCullough as import for the PBA Commissioner’s Cup failed to pan out.
FiberXers deputy coach Charles Tiu said the 6-foot-8 former NBA player opted to play elsewhere instead of making a highly-awaited return to Asia’s oldest professional league.

“He decided to play in Indonesia. I think he got a better offer there,” Tiu told SPIN.ph on Sunday.
“Yes, that was the original plan. But it didn’t work out. We’ll just consider other imports that are available,” added the concurrent head coach of St. Benilde College in the NCAA.

The stint would have been a reunion between the import and Tiu after the two teamed up in the last edition of the Jones Cup where the Strong Group Athletics won the championship.
It could have likewise serve as the return of McCullough in the same league where he once won a championship with San Miguel during the 2019 Commissioner's Cup.
Attempts by the Beermen to bring 29-year-old McCullough, a first round pick of the Brooklyn Nets during the 2015 NBA draft, back had been stymied by the pandemic and his unavailability to return to Manila.
He spent the last three years seeing action in the P.League+ with the New Taipei Kings and Formosa Dreamers, until accepting a short stint with SGA in the Jones Cup.
His years of stay playing in Taiwan has McCullough being offered to become a naturalized player for the Chinese Taipei national men's team.
