JUSTIN Brownlee basically took the first step in becoming a Filipino citizen - and perhaps playing for Gilas Pilipinas in the future.
Party List rep. Mikee Romero has co-authored a bill for the naturalization of the three-time Ginebra champion import, who has expressed his desire to be a Filipino following the Gin Kings’ PBA Commissioner’s Cup conquest.
Romero, House Committee on Sports vice chairman and Northport Batang Pier team owner, led the signatories of House Bill 8106 along with Reps. Enrico Pineda, Erico Aristotle Aumentado, and Scott Davies Lanete.
“He has brought enormous pride and joy to the Philippine Basketball Association as well as to all basketball enthusiasts in the country. He said he can have a house here just like Norman Black or other imports who have fallen in love with the Filipinos and the Philippines,” the bill stated.
“With a very decorated and illustrious career, he wishes to play for the Philippine national team. He also wants the Philippines to be his permanent home,” the bill added.
