GLOBALPORT import Leroy Hickerson made it clear that the Batang Pier are serious in their bid to end the 39th PBA season with a bang.
On Friday, Hickerson proved it in the game after finishing with 25 points, 14 rebounds, four steals, three assists and one steal to key the Batang Pier’s 95-91 king-sized upset against Alaska.
“I promised you we’re not just gonna (just) win one,” said Hickerson, now in his third PBA tour of duty after previous stints with Air21 and Barako Bull.
“They (Batang Pier) just had a tough time last conference, but I just want to come here and be part of what we are doing,” he added.
Globalport finished dead last in the recent Commissioner’s Cup after winning just once in nine games.
Hickerson said winning five games in the season-ending Governors Cup could possibly assure them of a top four finish, which would guarantee a twice-to-beat incentive heading to the playoffs.
And he’s confident that with the team now led by veterans Alex Cabagnot and Jay Washington as well as upcoming star in rookie Terrence Romeo, the Batang Pier are capable of making a solid playoff push.
“We have great players like Alex, Terrence and JayWash. So I just want to help, try to get the win, try to get five (wins), then we could possibly get to the top 4, and from there, anything can happen,” said a confident Globalport import, who helped Halcones Rojos de Veracruz bag the Mexican Basketball League recently.
Globalport returns to action on Sunday when the Batang Pier go up against Rain or Shine at the Mall of Asia Arena.
