BARANGAY Ginebra is now one win away from sweeping San Miguel in the PBA 50th Season Governors’ Cup quarterfinals and no one was more surprised than head coach Tim Cone.
The Gin Kings won handily against their powerhouse sister team, 126-99, on Friday to gain a 2-0 lead and move one win away from advancing to the semifinals.
“Is everyone as surprised as I am about this?” Cone said to start the postgame press conference. “We didn’t even dream that we would be able to get out, even 1-1, much less 2-0.”

Cone admitted everything is clicking for Barangay Ginebra in this series with Game 2 being led by Jordan Murphy, who had a near triple double of 33 points, 10 rebounds, and nine assists.
“We’re definitely on a roll. Our offense is clicking and guys are locked in defensively. We are just trying to keep the pressure on San Miguel, keep on attacking, keep going at him, and so far, it’s working,” Cone said.
Also having a big night for Barangay Ginebra is RJ Abarrientos, who had 22 points, five rebounds, and six assists.
Game 3 is set on Tuesday at the Dasmarinas Arena where the Gin Kings will go for the sweep but Cone will be the first to say that the task will be hard.
“I don’t have any complaints at this point. But again, two games doesn’t make a series as we all know. We’ve heard that many times."
