BARANGAY Ginebra hopes it could bring the most out of Sidney Onwubere as head coach Tim Cone also believes that Arth Dela Cruz will be able to make a major impact for NorthPort now that he is healthy.
Tim Cone on Arth dela Cruz-Sidney Onwubere trade
Cone said the team saw a lot of potential in Onwubere that would be vital for the Gin Kings moving forward in their campaign for the 2021 Governors’ Cup.
“We saw a player who’s shown flashes of solid potential. We’re hoping we can bring more out of his game at Ginebra,” said Cone shortly after the trade was consummated.

Onwubere averaged 9.6 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 1.2 assists for NorthPort in 13 games with the team. It was his first and only conference with the Batang Pier, who acquired him in a deal with Rain or Shine.
The deal ended the three-year stint of Dela Cruz with Barangay Ginebra, although the past few seasons have saw the former San Beda cager in and out of the active roster of the Gin Kings.
He only played in five games with Dela Cruz during the PBA bubble last year after playing in 32 outings with the Gin Kings during the 2019 season.
Dela Cruz also averaged 6.3 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 2.0 assists for Ginebra during its title run in the 2019 Governors’ Cup while playing in 13 games.
Cone said Dela Cruz still has the potential to become a top player in the PBA when healthy, which he is now.
“Art was the guy I really pursued to bring to Ginebra. Needless to say, we had great hope for him, but he’s had problems staying healthy. He is healthy now and if he can stay healthy, he’s a premier player in the league,” said Cone.
