BARANGAY Ginebra coach Tim Cone was the first to remind that a 3-2 lead, just like in its ongoing PBA 50th Season Commissioner’s Cup semifinals against Rain or Shine, isn’t a safe one.
Cone recalled the two times in recent times that Barangay Ginebra held a 3-2 advantage only to squander including the 2024 (Season 48) Philippine Cup semifinal against Meralco.
Just last season, the Gin Kings held the same lead against TNT in the 49th Season Commissioner’s Cup finals only for the Tropang 5G to win the last two matches and the championship

“We are not going to be happy with this win,” said Cone after the Gin Kings’ 111-104 win over the Elasto Painters last Friday.
“We’ve been in this situation the last couple of series we’ve been in, best-of-seven, we led 3-2 and then got beat both times,” he continued.
“It’s too easy to get too euphoric with a 3-2 lead, and think you are right there. You’re not. We’ve got a lot of work to do,” Cone added.
Game 6 is set to be played on Sunday at the Ynares Center-Antipolo where the Gin Kings will try to wrap things up.
The Gin Kings won after shooting 16-of-39 from three-point range in Game 5, a stark contrast to Game 4 where they only made 5-of-23.
Barangay Ginebra might need the same volume of threes for Game 6 in order to win, but first, the Gin Kings must get quality shots.
“We knew our three-point shots were down from Game 4, but that was because we just felt the ball didn’t move. We weren’t getting to our spots. We weren’t getting the looks that we wanted. And (in Game 5), the ball moved. And not only the ball moved, people moved. And when people move, it makes it harder to deny the passing lanes," Cone said.
“But I keep saying this. We’ve got to do it again. We’ve been in this situation before so we hope we can overcome this time."
