BARANGAY Ginebra knows fully well about Greg Slaughter finally arriving in the country after being away for the past nine months.
Coach Tim Cone said he and management are very much aware of the 7-foot Slaughter returning home in what could be a sign of his willingness to resume his PBA career.
“We’re very much aware and I’ve been in contact with him,” said Cone of the 30-year-old big man.
Slaughter posted on his social media account about his return to the country on Tuesday, a day after SPIN.ph’s Snow Badua first posted on Twitter a surprise sighting of the Barangay Ginebra center somewhere in Mandaluyong.
“It’s good to be back home,” Slaughter captioned his photo with his fiancée and their pet dog.
While Slaughter is back in town, no way can he enter the Philippine Cup bubble at Clark when the season officially restarts this Sunday at the Angeles University Foundation gym.
First, he's not part of the 15-man roster Barangay Ginebra submitted before the Commissioner's Office during the deadline of roster submission.
Second, it's yet to be determined whether Slaughter has already come to terms with the franchise after leaving for the U.S. last January after reportedly not getting a formal offer from Ginebra management about a contract renewal when his previous deal expired.
But team governor Alfrancis Chua said the Kings have a pending offer to Slaughter submitted to the PBA office just a few days after the Ateneo alumnus left for the U.S.
"Sayang, he won't be able to join us in the bubble," said Cone.
Asked if he talked to Slaughter about signing again with Ginebra, Cone said issues such as contract renewal doesn't fall under his lap.
"That's between him and management. I really cannot comment on that," he said.
