BARANGAY Ginebra will be facing foreign guest team Bay Area Dragons in the 2022 PBA Commissioner’s Cup Finals and the clash has some strong national team vibes for Kings head coach Tim Cone.
Cone is a winner of 24 championships in the PBA but the clash against the Dragons will be unlike no other finals he has experienced.
“To be honest, we are playing for more than ourselves,” said Cone during Friday’s pre-finals press conference. “We’ve talked about this with the team. We are playing for more than just ourselves. We are playing for more than just Ginebra. We are playing for the league. We are playing for the country. It almost feels like we are a national team which is really cool and a lot of fun for us.”

From Game One on Christmas Day at the Mall of Asia Arena, all eyes will be on the Gin Kings as they face a guest team that took the league by storm, topping the eliminations and beating Philippine Cup champions San Miguel in the semifinals.
The PBA is anticipating a big crowd that it has already set a possible Game Seven at the Philippine Arena on January 13.
“Lots at stake at this particular time. This may be the best finals I’ve ever been and I’ve been in a few,” said Cone.
Cone said he had expected Bay Area all long to go deep in the conference with teaam that had Goorjian at the helm and players led by former NBA player Andrew Nicholson.
“We knew that he would bring a great team. We knew that they would display all the things that we all want to be like. And we are certainly not disappointed.”

“They took down a really strong San Miguel team. It was a tough series but they took the down. We have our hands full and we are embracing the challenge,” said Cone.
