CHICAGO - Not only did he have a gun, he aimed it at someone and then pulled the trigger.
Fortunately on that September day in 2024, John Amores was errant with the pistol as he was with his jump shots.
But the reckless deed still invited an attempted murder charge that turned
both his personal and professional life in shambles.

Twenty months after the averted tragedy, the 6-foot-2 bruiser is back in the public spotlight.
This time, though, the noise is peaceful and does not stem from gunfire. He is not attempting to commit murder, he’s only attempting a comeback.
And he deserves this opportunity the same way he earned our collective ire.
PICKING UP THE PIECES.
“Gusto ko pong patunayan ang pagsisi ko at pangakong magbabago na,” the 26-year-old baller told SPIN.ph newsbreaker Snow Badua.
And from his lips to God’s ears, “It’s Amore” for the hopeful, remorseful former JRU Bomber.
“We are going to invite him to practice this June,” Titan Giant Risers owner Bryann Calantoc, whose team inherited Amores’ rights from NorthPort, told me on Saturday night.

Reunions are complicated because it can ressurect previously-held feelings of animosity, but when viewed in a positive light, they become bridges to true reconciliation.
The fact that Amores is getting a second chance to retrace his steps in the PBA is a Christmas tale in May.
But the process of cleansing his past transgressions doesn't end at forgiveness, it begins in acts of rehabilitation that must be shown through actions on and off the court.
“TO ERR IS HUMAN, TO FORGIVE IS DIVINE.”
What shouldn’t be forgotten is that while Amores walked away from a conviction, he had a victim who will endure the trauma of being chased after by an angry bullet that traveled on the wings of rage.
Here’s hoping that Lee Cacalda will heal from the mental scars of a pick-up game that went horribly wrong.
Sports is an extremely forgiving space and there is little doubt fans will embrace this “bad boy.”
John Amores has sinned and he needs to be forgiven.
While not everyone has a past that is checkered as a chess board, no one is pure and white as new-fallen snow, either.
Judge or be judged.
Warts and all, who knew that the PBA could birth a beautiful Sunday inspiration?
