CHICAGO— Nuni Omot is out as Magnolia Hotshots import for the ongoing PBA Season 50 Commissioner’s Cup.
Per multiple sources, the South Sudanese Olympian has sent text messages to teammates where he told him he “was gone.”
Omot’s dismissal comes after Magnolia coach LA Tenorio told reporters on Sunday night that the import was “not the problem.”
READ Tenorio says Magnolia's struggles 'not entirely about the import'
Omot scored 96 points in his three-game PBA stint but rebounding was an issue for the skinny 6-foot-9, 215-pounder who grabbed only a total of 22 boards.
And with the 31-year old supposedly anchoring the defense, the Hotshots hemorrhaged 310 points to start the conference.
AWFUL START.
Ultimately, Nuni Omot fell on the wicked sword of Magnolia’s 0-3 record.
Losing to Blackwater, a horrible, terrible look, did not help.
The franchise’s originally tapped import, Terrell Brown-Soares, will not be called up. “A new guy,” sources told me, will arrive in time for Tuesday’s practice.
It’s unclear how long Omot’s contract was and how much was guaranteed. It’s also not known if his deal had a “ release fee.”

What’s certain is that it’s wildly expensive and extremely difficult to bring in another import on short notice, which was why Meralco tried to hang on to an alleged violent offender in Ismael Romero.
Having ran through four reinforcements in the 2024 Governors’ Cup, the Hotshots are experts in import changes.
Moral of the story?
Having lots of money doesn’t guarantee success; it only allows a team to discard one poor choice after another.
