CHICAGO— After officially declaring him AWOL, the Terrafirma Dyip have suspended the contract of Mark Nonoy.
The sanction was imposed last month and the former La Salle Green Archer is no longer receiving his P200,000 a month salary, multiple sources told me on Monday night.
Nonoy’s rookie deal expires at the end of this year and it remains unclear if Terrafirma will terminate it early or simply allow it to run its course.

With video and photographic documentation of his alleged ”ligang labas” activities surfacing on social media, the Dyip have grown increasingly unhappy with the 10th overall pick of the 2024 PBA Draft.
The team’s inability to get a hold of their point guard has only exacerbated the tension.

Through his agent representation, Nonoy is trying to get a meeting with Terrafirma team governor Pido Jarencio, but that attempt at reconciliation has been met by a cold, indifferent shoulder.
“Hindi siya priority ngayon,” a person with intimate knowledge of the situation told me.
And rightly so.
In an odd rarity, Terrafirma is busy winning after putting together a two-game winning streak in the ongoing Season 50 PBA Commissioner’s Cup.
The Dyip crushed Titan Ultra, 112-82, last March 11 before doubling up with a sizable 111-100 overtime upset over powerhouse Converge.

In a message relayed by his camp, is “remorseful” and willing “ to make amends.”
But the expectation here is for Terrafirma to assume a wait-and-see approach, with very heavy emphasis on wait.
Which makes sense.
At a time of celebration and renewal, discussing Nonoy’s misdemeanors would only serve as a distraction that can ruin the team’s happy vibes.
Besides, there is no urgent need for Nonoy to return to the lineup because Terrafirma’s guard play has been excellent, thanks to Paolo Hernandez and the Ahanmisi brothers, Maverick and Jerrick.
Mark Nonoy is only 25. He will have a long career in the league.
And when time heals the wounds he is dealing with right now, he must conduct himself as a professional at all times.
That includes picking up the telephone when your employer comes calling.
