CHICAGO - It’s no secret that Mikey Williams’ tenure at Converge hasn’t turned out to be a riot.
If anything, the once fiery offense of the two-time PBA champion and two-time Finals MVP has been muffled since becoming a FiberXer in June 2025.
In this ongoing Season 50 PBA Governors’ Cup, Mikey is averaging a harmless triple-single of 9.1 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game.
SCENARIOS: How a Magnolia vs TNT quarterfinal series can happen
It’s hard to ascertain if the dip in production is caused by the rust from a nearly three year-long layoff following a contract dispute with TNT or the sporadic playing minutes he’s getting at Converge.
Whatever the reason, the Tropang 5G were watching from a distance and harbored thoughts that perhaps, under their familiar system and a robust usage, the Mikey of old can be resurrected.
REUNION?
And while nothing was etched in stone, a league source told me that if Converge were to sever ties with the mercurial guard, TNT was open to the idea of re-acquiring Williams in a potential trade for Rey Nambatac, Glenn Khobuntin and a future draft pick.
Storylines along “The Return of the Prodigal Son” theme immediately started dancing on my mind.
More so that Converge, I was told, was warm to the idea.
But after the telecommunications giant inked Jordan Heading to a three-year contract extension last Friday, TNT’s glowing interest on Mikey faded like the late afternoon sun.
“They have a multitude of guards now,” a person with knowledge of the situation told me on Tuesday.
Mikey could have added more sauce to an already spicy TNT offense. And his ability to bring up the ball is a huge plus.
UNCERTAIN FUTURE.
“Okay sana kung natuloy but we are also happy with what we have,” a former teammate of Mikey chimed in.
So where does Mikey go from here?
At Converge, at least until this coming March when his current one-year deal expires.
A decision on whether to extend the 6-foot-2 Fil-Am or find a trade partner has not been made.

The upcoming Philippine Cup will be an audition for Mikey.
At age 34, with a more muted scoring production, is he still worth the reported salary of $26,000 a month including perks and bonuses?
