COLLEAGUES are mourning the death of PBA referee Emmanuel Tangkion, who passed away after he collapsed during a regular workout on Tuesday.
Referees who officiated Game Three of the PBA Philippine Cup quarterfinal series between TNT and San Miguel wore ‘28’ on the left side of their shirt in honor of Tangkion, who has been a referee in the pro league since 2011.
A moment of silence was also held before the start of the game at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum a day after Tangkion’s passing, which also coincided with the 44th anniversary of the league's founding.
PBA players have also sent out their condolences through their social media accounts upon learning about the sad news.
Tangkion passed away after collapsing during the referees’ workout on Tuesday at the JCSGO Gym after the PBA D-League games. Tangkion was immediately rushed to a hospital but was doctors failed to revive him.
He was 47.
