THE Globalport coaching staff doesn't only have a new man at the helm in Richie Ticzon, it also has a new look.
Like the rejigged Batang Pier side that only had a small resemblance to the team of last year, Ticzon and his staff showed up for the first game of the season looking different in their neat long sleeves and tie.
Globalport owner Mikee Romero said the fashion makeover not only emphasizes a change of image for the ballclub but also a whole new attitude for the second-year team.
“I just want to professionalize my team. Kasi even in the NBA you will see the coaching staff wearing corporate,” said Romero, recently named by Forbes magazine as the 26th richest Filipino.
A stylish person himself, Romero believes that encouraging his coaching staff to dress appropriately may well give their two-year-old team a better outlook on and off the court.
“Mas okay naman talaga tignan ngayon, di ba?” said the team owner.
But just as a rejigged Globalport struggling to put its act together in an 87-97 loss to Petron on Wednesday, the Batang Pier coaching staff also had a rough start to its new look.
Romel Adducul, for one, wore his necktie with its narrow part obviously hanging a little shorter at the back while another member of the staff had his belt buckle terribly misplaced.
