YENG Guiao really feels more confident making predictions when his team is coming off a loss.

The Rain or Shine coach, who declined to make guarantees after they won Game Three and moved on the verge of a sweep, felt more secure of the Elasto Painters’ championship chances after they lost to Alaska, 111-99, in Game Four of the PBA Commissioner’s Cup Finals on Friday night.

“We still feel we will win this championship, not just on a Friday the thirteenth, but maybe on a Sunday the fifteenth – it’s a better day,” Guiao said after emerging from the dugout. “The championship is postponed for now, but it’s well on its way.”

“We will try to have the balloons fall on Sunday,” he added with a smile.

The E-Painters did appear to be caught by the Friday the 13th curse as they failed to get in their groove, especially in the middle quarters where the Aces broke away from a see-saw battle and built a huge cushion.

“We couldn’t get anything going in the first half. There were too many bad calls,” Guiao said. “We couldn’t get our momentum going. Umayos ng konti – konti lang – yung tawagan nung second half pero ang laki na 'yung lamang.”

“This was probably their best shooting night in the series,” he added. “It just means that we probably were not working hard enough challenging their shots because a lot of those shots were open.”

The E-Painters’ defense was also suspect, particularly on Aces import Rob Dozier, who scored 23 points on 8-of-14 shooting in 36 minutes.

“We will make some adjustments with our defense,” Guiao said. “Dozier has just been scoring at will at the isolation at the post, so we have to look for something to solve that.”
