AS reporters waited for the remaining TNT Katropa players and staff to emerge from the dugout on Friday night, someone inside was heard celebrating their 87-85 win over San Miguel Beer in Game Two of their PBA Philippine Cup semifinal series.
“Ang sarap mag-beer!” one TNT staff exclaimed.
At least the Texters were doing their celebrating not in front of the Beermen.
TNT coach Nash Racela admitted his team has been motivated by Alex Cabagnot’s 'Arrow' celebration after knocking down a clutch three-pointer in their 98-94 win in their last game in the elimination round.
Watch the video:
“I think they heard the message of Alex,” Racela said. “At the same time, in a way they retaliated, gave them a message.”
“If you watch Alex, at least in this series, hindi na niya ginagawa eh,” he added. “Siguro nalaman din niya na what he did was offending some people and in life ganun naman talaga eh. I'm just happy he's not doing it anymore.”
Cabagnot has yet to make a winning basket down the stretch in the first two games of the series.
“Sa part namin, that's one of the objectives, too na sana hindi namin siya ma-allow (to celebrate like that) because you have to give credit also to him kasi nagawa niya yun against our defense,” Racela said. “That gave him a right. Now, we try to take away that right.”
Cabagnot had a chance to reprise his heroics in their last play where the man known as “Captain Crunch” received the inbound, only to pass it to Arwind Santos, who also failed to at least take a shot.
TNT superstar Jayson Castro was just relieved Cabagnot failed to haunt them again – at least in Game Two.
“Kaya gumamble kami na either i-trap siya para mawala yung bola sa kanya or may mga scheme kaming ginawa which nagbunga naman,” Castro said.
“Pero syempre, yung one-on-one defense pa rin, yun yung kailangan namin kasi alam naman natin na si Cabagnot pag dying seconds, kaya niya talaga i-shoot yun.”
