BLACKWATER coach Leo Isaac rued his team’s failure to play consistent basketball that was once again evident in its 87-79 loss to Alaska on Friday in the PBA Philippine Cup.

Like in their 90-86 defeat to NLEX last Friday, the Elite managed to establish an early lead but failed to protect it as they faded down the stretch on the way to suffering a second straight setback.

“Ang frustration namin, hindi pa rin namin ma-convert into a win,” Isaac said. “Kulang pa kami sa maturity at depth ng players who could really perform during crunch time.”

“Kailangan magkaroon tayo ng players who would really give us a good game performance,” he added. “Hindi yung isa, dalawang quarter ka lang.”

Isaac cited rookie Keith Agovida, who scored just three points on 1-of-7 shooting against the Aces after having a solid pro debut with 15 points versus the Road Warriors.

“Wala pa kami sa stage na pag sinalang mo isang player, he will give you the performance you expect,” the Elite mentor said. “Hopefully the soonest, we can really develop players who could really play forty-eight minutes of high intensity.”

Isaac is hoping Art dela Cruz, their top pick in this year’s draft, is what the doctor ordered for the Elite.

“I’m just keeping my hopes high that Art will be a player who can help us in the four position,” he said. “He’s young, talented, and has good basketball basics.”

Dela Cruz, San Beda’s do-it-all forward, has yet to sign a contract but is expected to report for his first practice on Sunday.

Isaac hinted the Red Lions star could be activated as early as Monday, two days before the Elite’s next game, against Meralco.

“It would all depend on how fast he can fit into our organization,” Isaac said.
