SAN Miguel Beer raised its bottles on Thursday night to celebrate the Beermen’s latest, probably most remarkable PBA championship yet.

But unlike in their last two victory parties, SMC CEO Ramon S. Ang was absent in celebrating the franchise’s feat of pulling the greatest comeback in league history as he was nursing a flu.

“Kanina nag-courtesy call kami sa kanya,” SMB coach Leo Austria said after the party at the SMC compound. “Hindi siya makaharap sa tao dahil masama ang pakiramdam niya.”

“May konting fever and inuubo siya, ayaw niyang makahawa,” he added. “At baka lumala pa.”

But the SMC big boss, Austria said, was the first one to celebrate after the Beermen conquered the Alaska Aces in the deciding game of the Philippine Cup Finals, capping off an improbable comeback from an 0-3 deficit.

“Game Seven, nag-celebrate na siya ng sarili niya.”

Austria said Ang simply reminded them during their courtesy call that the Beermen’s latest feat could inspire them even more in future conferences.

“Lagi lang niyang sinasabi na we’ve learned our lesson and this lesson could inspire us in the future.”
