SAN Miguel Beer coach Leo Austria rued Tyler Wilkerson’s sub-par and indifferent performance that spelled a difference in the Beermen’s 108-99 loss to Star in their PBA Commissioner’s Cup quarterfinal matchup on Monday night.

Wilkerson, the Best Import race frontrunner, was limited to just 22 points on 9-of-19 shooting, his second-lowest output this conference after coming in averaging 36.9 points.

His numbers paled to that of Hotshots counterpart Ricardo Ratliffe, who almost registered a 30-30 with 33 points and 29 boards.

“I think yun yung big factor, yung work ethic nung import nila unlike sa amin na mukhang walang pinakita eh,” Austria admitted after emerging from the dugout after a long talk with his deputies.

Wilkerson, who averaged 3.6 three-point conversions and a 40-percent clip from that range in the elimination round, missed all of his eight attempts from beyond the arc against the Hotshots.

Austria had hoped the prolific reinforcement, who did have 14 rebounds, three blocks, two assists in 45 minutes, would be more aggressive in attacking the basket instead.

“Yung tao niya lagi in front of him, that’s why I asked him to stay at the post, but he kept on going out in the perimeter,” Austria said. “Sabi ko, kailangan high percentage because kung titignan mo yung mga championship na pinanalo namin, priority namin is big man at the post.”

“Sana ma-realize niya na this is playoff time and he cannot take any shot easily dahil scouted na siya ng any team, just like what happened in our game versus Ginebra,” he added.
