NLEX dug deep and turned to its shock troopers late in beating San Miguel in overtime, 112-108, on Saturday in the PBA Governors’ Cup at the Aquilino Pimintel International Convention Center in Cagayan De Oro City.
The Road Warriors claimed their third win in four outings after clutch plays from other players outside their top stars Myke Henry and Robert Bolick.
Former San Miguel player Robbie Herndon buried a clutch three late in with 28.2 seconds remaining to give NLEX a 110-106 lead.
Richie Rodger scored four points in overtime, while Jhan Nermal opened the extra period with a three-point play to set the tone for the Road Warriors in the game.
Henry had his usual outing of 33 points, six rebounds, four assists, two steals, and two blocks but got a lot of help from his teammates.
Robert Bolick had 20 points while Mike Miranda had 17 points including a four-point shot that brought NLEX ahead, 96-93, with 2:16 left in the fourth.
Jonnel Policarpio had 12 points, while Nermal and Herndon each added 10 points for the Road Warriors. Rodger only had six but had two field goals in overtime.
Momentum appeared to have swung NLEX after Miranda's four as it was followed by a Bolick lay-up for a 98-93 lead with 1:29 left in regulation. But CJ Perez scored a three-point play and Jordan Adams tied the game at 98 with 1.7 seconds to force overtime.
Adams brought SMB up by one on lay-up, 104-103, but it was the last time the Beermen tasted the lead. The Beermen fell to 2-2 in their second straight loss following their defeat against Barangay Ginebra last Tuesday where Justin Brownlee had 51 points.
Adams had a game-high 36 points, and Perez had 29 for the Beermen.
